A tour to Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a great way to spend a day away from the bustle of town life. The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania allowing you either to prepare your body for the forthcoming climb to Kilimanjaro or ease your muscles after the climb.

The tour starts with a walk to Materuni Waterfall. It is an opportunity to see how local fruit like avocados, mangos, lemons, and bananas grow, as well as learn some of the local history, traditions, village economy, agricultural and cultural life. When you get to the waterfall, you can refresh yourself in the natural pool, so swimsuits will come in handy!

The tour will continue with a visit to the local village lying in the coffee plantations. The villagers will demonstrate the process of coffee farming and guide you through the preparation of coffee from a bean to a cup. Sing and dance along with the Chaga people as they are grinding, roasting and boiling the beans. When the coffee is ready, villagers will serve lunch — a national Chagga meal.

I’ve never been to a place like that. The atmosphere is so peaceful and quiet, that you can actually see yourself united with the wildlife. We have seen a troop of monkeys, coming very close to us in the morning and a few bushbabies later at night. We also enjoyed the food and the service — staff was very friendly and nice.

The staff are superb. Brenda the waiter seems to work all day and is always very attentive and friendly. The reception staff were very helpful and accommodating when we arrived a day early for our stay. Breakfast was very nice. The chef was very flexible and food was lovely. Our room was spotless and extra towels provided for use at the pool. A superb place to stay when trying to relax and escape after camping for the previous 3 nights during our safari.

I loved the outside areas — garden, seating near the pool, feeling of retreat. I also really liked the staff. They seemed to enjoy working together and were always ready to help me with anything (calling a taxi, getting airtime, preparing meals when it was most convenient for me, etc.). Having hot water for the shower was awesome!
